Titan Swimmers Medal At British Gas Swimming ChampionshipsAt the recent British Gas National Swimming Championships and Commonwealth Games Trials, Ellesmere College Titan swimmers Stacey Tadd age 21, Darren Mew age 30 and James Faure age 21 put Ellesmere College and Shropshire swimming well and truly on the sporting map.
The Championships which were held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield from the 29th March to the 3rd April, doubled up as the Trials for this autumn’s Commonwealth Games which are being held in Delhi, India. The best very swimmers from all over the UK, including world record holders and Beijing Olympic medallists Rebecca Adlington, Jo Jackson and Gemma Spofforth competed against each other to be crowned as British Champions. Top Young Lancashire Swimmer Joins Titans12 year old Lucy Rowland is the latest swimmer to have been awarded a swimming scholarship to attend Ellesmere College.
Lucy, who currently attends St Mary’s Hall Stonyhurst School in Lancashire and swims for Burnley Bobcats will be joining Ellesmere College and the Ellesmere College Titans elite swimming programme in September. Lucy took up swimming at the age of 5 and this year achieved 8 regional qualifying times. Titan’s coach Jon Pardoe commented “Lucy’s positivity and enthusiasm is infectious. I’m really excited about helping her develop her undoubted talent”. Commenting upon joining the Titans Lucy said “I’ll be sad to be leaving Stoneyhurst school but optimistic that the superb facilities at Ellesmere will enable me to eventually swim at an even higher level and one day achieve my dream of making the Olympic team”. At the Stockport Metro Open Meet on 16th April Titan swimmer James Wilson, age 12, made it a “Magnificent Seven” National Qualifying times by swimming in the 1500m freestyle in 18:30.64.

The Titans are delighted to announce that following a review by the League committee - the club has been promoted for the forthcoming season to the National Arena League First Division. The decision follows the amalgamation of a couple of the other clubs within the League and is in recognition of our 4th place finish in last year’s final.

25-MAR-2010 | Titans Add Cross Country to Training Schedule
The Titans have added a Thursday morning Cross Country run session to their weekly training schedule. The sessions are headed up by Neil Kershaw – himself an experienced runner. Each run will be of a 3-5 mile duration and take place at one of a number of scenic locations within a close proximity of Ellesmere. Last Thursday’s morning run saw Titan swimmers congregate at 7am amidst the mist at the beautiful glacial setting of Colemere.
Titan head coach Jon Pardoe said: “regular running brings with it huge cross training fitness benefits to swimmers. Most top international swimmers incorporate at least one weekly run into their training schedule – and what better way to do this than against the backdrop of some of the most glorious landscapes that England has to offer.” [end]
