Young Swimmers Welcome New Ellesmere Club
Young swimmers from all over North Shropshire have welcomed the establishment of the Titans - a new and highly ambitious swimming club. After three months of intense planning – the Ellesmere College Titans – has today been welcomed into the swimming community with its affiliation to the Amateur Swimming Association.
The Ellesmere College Titans Swimming Club has been established as a meeting of minds, between Ellesmere College – a school with a great sporting heritage and the parents of some of the top young swimmers in Shropshire, united in their desire to create an ambitious, positive and competitive swimming club.

Drawing upon swimmers from both the school and the wider community the new club have set out a clear and ambitious vision for swimming in North Shropshire. Utilising all of the School’s excellent training facilities, the Titans seek to provide it’s swimmers with every opportunity to fulfil their potential.
Some of the founding members of the new club attended their first training session on Sunday as part of the Ellesmere College Open Day.
Titans head coach Jon Pardoe said “Everyone is the new club is just on cloud nine with excitement. We’ve successfully managed to put together some of the best young swimmers in Shropshire with superb facilities and some of the best coaching resources available anywhere in the UK. The opportunities are endless. Since knowledge of this new club first hit the grapevine we’ve been inundated with young swimmers from a wide radius seeking to join.”
One such swimmer Annie Mellings aged 12, an ex Whitchurch wasps swimmer and the current Shropshire County Champion at 200m breaststroke marvelled “The Titans is the birth of a dream – a dream that will allow me every opportunity to fulfill my potential”.
Another Titan swimmer Jamie Thomas aged 10, the holder of numerous all time City of Chester swimming records said “my enthusiasm for swimming has been completely rekindled. They say that success breeds success and I’m sure that being surrounded by so many other talented young swimmers can only make me more determined”.
Ellesmere College Headmaster Brendan Wignall commented “I am delighted at the establishment of the Ellesmere College Titans. It sits very well alongside the Rugby and Tennis Centres of Excellence at the College, and has the additional attraction of being a very clear link between the College and the local community. I have no doubt the Ellesmere College Titans will prove to be a very successful venture.’
Ellesmere College was founded in 1884 and is part of the Woodard Group – the largest grouping of public schools in the UK. Over the years it has been responsible for producing some of the British sporting greats including ex-England Rugby captain Bill Beaumont. It is hoped that it will produce the next generation of British swimming greats
