A Look Ahead to Next Weekends National Speedo Fixture
Next Saturday will see the Titans competing in our first ever National Speedo League fixture at the brand new multi-million pound Leigh Sports Village Pool, Nr Wigan.
In our first season in the League we have elected to compete in the North West Minor Division - affording us the benefit of fielding mixed relay teams – thereby reducing the number of swimmers we need to have available.
However the title “Minor Division” is somewhat misleading since a number of the biggest clubs in the North West including Bolton, Lancaster and Northwich choose to compete in this division. In total there are 11 teams in the division including ourselves – the other teams being: Ellesmere Port, Garston. Altrincham, Ashton central, Leyland Barracudas, Royton and Whitchurch.
The division title is competed for over 3 rounds. In each round there are two groups. Our group in Round 1 includes 6 clubs: Bolton, Northwich, Lancaster, Ellesmere Port, Garston and ourselves. The second group consists of 5 teams.
After Round 1 another draw is made to determine the teams for Round 2. Hopefully we’ll get the roll of the dice and find ourselves in a group of 5.
In Round 3 the top 6 teams on points from Rounds 1 & 2 are grouped together for what is in effect a final.
So it’s clearly important that we start as we mean to continue – winning!
David Main and Courtney Pickstone (above) have been selected as the boys and girls team captains. Both have a lot of experience of competing at Speedo galas and can hopefully rise to the occasion and deliver Captains performaces.
The Titans Battle Bus will be leaving Ellesmere College School at 3pm and stopping at Whitchurch Leisure Centre at 3.15pm.
