Titans Announce Launch of Junior Development Squad

The Titans have announced plans to launch a Junior Development Squad from the start of the new school term (6th September 2009). The existing Squad will become known as the Senior Competitive Squad.

This new squad will be open to both pupils and non-pupils of Ellesmere College. The target age group for this Junior Development Squad will be 8-12. The training emphasis will be on skill & stroke development. The aim will be to develop these swimmers so that in time they can make the transition to Senior Competitive training. Aside from swimming ability the most important criteria for selection will be enthusiasm, ambition and active parental support.

The planned pool session times for this squad will be:

  • Mondays 4.30pm-6.00pm
  • Wednesdays 5.30pm-7.00pm
  • Fridays 5.00pm-6.30pm

Dryland training will be available but has yet to be scheduled.

Increased Squad Numbers

With the introduction of this squad the club will reduce the maximum numbers in the Senior Competitive Squad from 24 to 22 and set a maximum of 24 swimmers in the Junior Development Squad (ie a maximum of 6 per lane). The launch of this new squad will therefore increase the Titans total maximum swimming membership from its current level of 24 to 46.

Swimmers within the Junior Development Squad will be full members of the Titans. They will be registered with the ASA and will therefore be available for gala selection. The minimum average weekly training requirement for this squad will be set at 3 hours.

Commenting upon the establishment of this new squad Titans Coach Jon Pardoe said “There is no standing still in life. One either goes forwards or backwards and the Titans are definitely on the offensive. The establishment of a Junior Development Squad will allow an increased number of swimmers to benefit”.

It is anticipated that this Junior Development Squad will become full very quickly. So anyone wishing to join or find out more should make contact with the Titans Coach Jon Pardoe (email:jonpardoe@hotmail.co.uk; mobile 07903 641668)
