Clash Of Young Titans At Shrewsbury Swimming Meet
At last Saturday’s Shrewsbury Open Swimming Meet young Ellesmere College Titan swimmers Hector Pardoe age 9 and Michael Doyle age 10 won all five gold medals in their 10/u age group.
The Open Meet which was held at the Quarry Swimming Centre on Saturday 3rd April was attended by some of the best young swimmers from the region.
Despite only just having turned 9 and being by far the youngest swimmer at the meet, Hector Pardoe won gold medals in the 200m freestyle in 2:38.97; the 200m butterfly in 3:18.88; and the 200m backstroke in 3:02.26. As a result he is now ranked 1st amongst all 9 year olds in the West Midlands in both the 200m fly and 200m backstroke and 2nd in the 200m freestyle.
Not to be outdone by his teammate and training partner Michael Doyle won the gold medals in the 200m breaststroke in 3:49.94 and 200m individual medley in 3:11.98.events.
Both Hector and Michael were awarded their medals and congratulated on their performances by the Mayor of Shrewsbury.
Titan head coach Jon Pardoe commented “I’m absolutely delighted for both Hector and Michael. It really was a case of a Clash of the Titans. The Titan’s emphasis on developing extremely talented young swimmers is without question paying dividends”.
Other Titans swimmers competing at the meet included Elliot Hughes age 13, Alfie Pardoe age 12, Hannah Greene age 13, Annie Jones age 14, Lauren Bond age 12, Ottilie Fairhurst age 12 and Natalie Greene age 11.
