Derventio Excel Swimmer Awarded Swimming Scholarship To Ellesmere College

Talented 12 year old swimmer, Beatrice Roberts, is the latest swimmer to have been awarded a swimming scholarship to attend Ellesmere College.

Beatrice, who currently attends Castle Donnington Community College and is a member of Long Eaton Swimming Club and Derventio Excel -Derbyshire’s  Performance Swimming Squad, will be joining Ellesmere College and the Ellesmere College Titans elite swimming programme in September.

Beatrice first came to prominence at the age of 8 when she won silver medals in both the 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly at the Montreal Swimming Championships in Canada. She returned to the UK in 2007, and in 2008 achieved 8 qualifying times for the 2008 Midland Regional Age Group Championships.  This year she will once again be competing in 8 events at the forthcoming Midland Championships.

Specialising in Long Distance Events

Specialising in long distance events Beatrice has recently taken up Open Water competition and last year won the bronze medal in the 12-16 year age category at the Derbyshire 1500m Open water Championships despite only being 11 years old. This year she will be competing in the 3000m event at the Midland Open Water Championships

Titan’s coach Jon Pardoe commented “Beatrice is a very promising young swimmer with significant potential.  I’m looking forward to helping her achieve her swimming goals”.
