Top Isle Of Man Swimmer Awarded Swimming Scholarship To Ellesmere College

poppy evans16 year old Isle of Man swimmer Poppy Evans, is the latest swimmer to have been awarded a scholarship to attend Ellesmere College.

Poppy, who currently attends Ramsey Grammar School on the Isle of Man and is a member of both the Ramseian and Isle of Man Swimming Clubs, will be joining Ellesmere College and the Ellesmere College Titans elite swimming programme in September.

In May 2010 at the ASA North West Regional Youth Championships which were held in Liverpool, Poppy took the silver medal in the 16/17 age group in the 200m breaststroke and bronze in the 50m breaststroke events. Poppy has also achieved British National Championship qualifying times in both the 100m and 200m breaststroke events and is looking forward to being selected to represent the Isle of Man at next year’s Nat West Island Games.

Titan’s coach Jon Pardoe commented “Poppy is a very promising breaststroke swimmer and will no doubt gain inspiration from competing alongside former Olympic breaststroke swimmer Darren Mew and Stacey Tadd - winner of this year’s British Championships.  I’m looking forward to helping her take the next leap forwards”.

Commenting upon joining the Titans Poppy said “I’m delighted to be joining the Titans training programme. This is a great chance to combine the pursuit of my swimming goals with my A level studies. “
