Top Young Welsh Breaststroke Swimmer Joins Titans
13 year old Welsh Breaststroke swimming prodigy Llawen Rossell-Smith, is the latest swimmer to have been awarded a scholarship to attend Ellesmere College.
Llawen, who currently attends ysgol Eifionydd Porthmadog school in North Wales and is a member of the City of Bangor swimming club and the North Wales county squad Swim Gwynedd, will be joining Ellesmere College and the Ellesmere College Titans elite swimming programme in September.
Llawen took up swimming at the age of 4 and by 10 her talent had been spotted by her local swimming club. In April 2010 at the Welsh Age Group Championships, which were held in Swansea, Llawen took the silver medal in the 100m breaststroke and the bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke events in the 12/13 age group.
Llawen has also achieved 2010 British National Championship qualifying times in both the 100m and 200m breaststroke events and is looking forward to competing at those Championships in Sheffield in July.
Titan’s coach Jon Pardoe commented “Llawen is a very natural breaststroke swimmer and I’m looking forward to helping her take the next quantum leap forwards”.
Commenting upon joining the Titans Llawen said “I’m really excited to be joining the Ellesmere College Titans training programme. It is a wonderful opportunity to gain inspiration from training with other elite young swimmers. “
