Young Titans Smash County Records

Ellesmere College Titans swimmers stormed to victory at the first weekend of this year’s Shropshire County Swimming Championships held on 26th & 27th February at the Market Drayton Swimming Centre. By the end of two days of hard fought competition they returned in triumphant mood with a magnificent haul of 14 Gold, 11 Silver and 11 Bronze medals.

Swimming against the very best swimmers from all over the County they recorded 75 personal best times, broke 15 club and 4 all time County Championship records.

9 year old Kate Haworth won the gold medals and smashed 2 County Championship records in the 200 Individual Medley (IM) in a time of 3:08.10 and the 200m Backstroke in 3:05.79. Kate also won the silver medal in the 200m freestyle in a time of 2:53.04.

Hector Pardoe, age 9, won the gold medals and broke the County Championship age group records in both the 200m breaststroke in a time of 3:34.89 and the 200m butterfly in 2:55.49.

10 year old Ellie Hutchings won the gold medals in the 200m freestyle (2:39.14) and the 200m backstroke (2:52.84).

Michael Doyle, age 10 won the gold medal in the 400m IM in a time of 6:06.64 and secured the silver in the 200m butterfly and bronze in the 200m breaststroke.

13 year old Alfie Pardoe won the gold medals in the 400m IM (5:20.09) and the 200m breaststroke (2:55.82). He also secured the bronze medals in the 200m butterfly, 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle.

Further medals were won for the Titans by the following swimmers:  Elliot Hughes age 14, David Main age 18, Luc Jarzynski age 12, Beatrice Roberts age 13, Llawen Rossell-Smith age 14, Poppy Evans age 17, Luke Parker age 11 and James Norman age 19.

The final weekend of this year’s County Championships will take place on the 12th and 13th March.
