Top Manchester Swimmer Phillip Oliver Joins Titans

Phillip OliverRecruitment of the UK’s top talented young swimmers to the now well established and respected Titans squad continues.

Phillip Oliver has joined the squad this month, having achieved the award for 2011 Top 15 Year Old Boy at the Manchester and Bolton Age Group Championships. Phillip secured 9 golds, 3 silvers and 1 bronze medal.  He also achieved 9 regional youth qualifying times.

Specialising in free and fly, Phillip began his competitive swimming career aged 9 with Wigan as part of their ‘Scheme of Excellence’ programme.  He secured his first National Qualifying Time aged 13 in the 400 free.  Shortly afterwards Phillip transferred to City of Liverpool following the closure of the Wigan pool and went to win gold in the Scottish Nationals 1500m, silver in the 800m and bronze in the 400m.

In 2009 Phillip achieved 4 National Qualifying Times - 200, 400, 800 and 1500m free - as well as swimming in all 3 age group relays at national level.  He was also the 2009 North West Regional Open Water Novice Champion and competed in the 2009 National Open Water Championships.

Focus on Competitive Sprints

A growth spurt cut short Phillip’s distance swimming career and his focus is now on competitive sprints.

Phillip comments, ‘I am thrilled to be joining the Titans - they have quickly established themselves as a club to watch and who are going places.  I was very impressed with the facilities, the coaching programme and the squad’s forward thinking and ambitious approach when I trialled with them earlier this year.  I can’t wait to start training and competing as a Titan!’

Head Coach Jon Pardoe adds, ‘We are delighted to welcome Phillip into the squad - his talents will complement the already powerful boys squad, plus his sprinting capabilities will strengthen our team for the up and coming Arena league competition.’
